The Company has a proven track
record in the construction of wastewater treatment
facilities, having constructed many of the existing
treatment Ponds
in Northern Tasmania. In recent years this has been
extended to encompass the total construction of treatment
facilities such as the $6 million George Town Wastewater
Treatment Plant.
Shaw have considerable expertise
in the construction of waste treatment facilities
and have environmental Practice Notices to cart hydrocarbon
contaminated soils and biosolids on public roads.
Shaw have constructed several solid waste
disposal sites including:
•
Copping Landfill
•
Dulverton Regional Landfill
Shaw have constructed bunds to accept 10ha of
HDPE blankets, gas venting layers, leachate drainage
and ultimately the encapsulation of 250,000m3
of spent furnace waste contaminated with cyanide,
ammonia gas and hydrocarbons for the Comalco Encapsulation
project.
Wetlands were then constructed over this area,
which is now inhabited by native wildlife.
Shaw also has a long- term contract with Devonport
City Council to cart and sell biosolids. Lime is
mixed with waste plant to kill pathogens. The material
was once a costly landfill problem but
is now being successfully spread on poppy paddocks.
