At Shaw we understand that good governance leads to excellent business outcomes, as an employee owned shareholder business it recognised that independence at a board level is required to achieve good governance.
Shaw has recruited two independent directors to guide and lead the board in setting the strategic direction as well as developing and monitoring corporate policy and risk management policies and procedures.
Chris Oldfield
Non-Executive Director/Chair
Chris was appointed Chair of Shaw in March 2019. Prior to joining the Shaw Board, Chris was Australia’s Consul-General in San Francisco and the Australian Trade and Investments Commission’s (Austrade’s) Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner on the west coast of the USA.
Previously, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Tasmanian Irrigation Pty Ltd, the CEO of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association and a former Member of the Joint Commonwealth and Tasmanian Economic Council.
Steve Davy
Non-Executive Director
Steve was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Shaw in September 2020. He was the former Hydro Chief Executive leading Hydro’s $2 billion business with responsibility 1200 staff and 250,000 customers and also served in senior Board roles with the Australian Energy Council. Prior to joining the Hydro in 2005, he had a career in national energy and financial markets.
Steve has a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Physics and has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.

Well networked and highly successful in implementing business process improvements, defining company direction, achieving goals, change and optimising business procedures.
Winton Mahar

Winton is an energetic, passionate and self-motivated Tasmanian, with in excess of 20 years’ experience in the broad disciplines of Financial Management and Control, Strategic Management, Business Compliance and Corporate Governance.
Jim Irvine
Executive Director
Jim is a highly-experienced business risk management professional with an impressive career having worked for companies around the world in positions focusing on construction risk management, mining as well as strategic health and safety.
Jim’s exceptional knowledge, skills and experience have been highly valuable to the company’s continued growth and success. His key strengths are; management systems, training, design and implementation of strategy, values driven safety and developing communications to match organizational needs and enhance organizational effectiveness.
