Shaw upgraded 32 km of the Midland Highway near Ross and Oatlands, widening the road to create a safer median and new overtaking lanes. The project included 58 km of wire-rope and guard-rail barriers, 480,000 m² of new seal, reinforced concrete culverts, and bridge interface works. Innovative lime stabilisation improved weak subgrades, reducing truck movements and environmental impact. Careful traffic management and accelerated programming kept the highway open and delivered key sections ahead of schedule. The project’s quality and execution were recognised with a 2024 Civil Contractors Federation (CCF) Tasmania Earth Award.
