If you have a detailed history in civil construction and meet the following criteria we could offer you your next employment opportunity.

To be successful in the position you will have:

  • The ability to operate a grader to mix and compact road building material and cut/trim final road levels
  • Demonstrated experience in the safe operation/maintenance of relevant plant and equipment (e.g. road grader, rollers, loader, truck/trailers etc)
  • Technical skills with the ability to read and understand plans and construction drawings
  • Relevant licences, certificates and qualifications
  • Self-motivation and be safety minded
  • 7-10 years’ experience as a final trim grader operator (desirable)
  • The ability to work unsupervised, have a mechanical aptitude and enjoy working as part of a valued team

Civil Supervisors

Due to continuing growth across Tasmania we are looking to appoint strong Civil Supervisor’s to supervise projects in both the North and South of Tasmania. We are particularly interested in candidates with demonstrated experience in a broad range of Civil projects including but not limited to; major earthworks, road works, pavements, traffic management, Highway duplications and civil infrastructure.


Roles and Responsibilities of the Civil Supervisor’s will include:

  • Providing confident and competent leadership to a project and employees, including sub-contractors.
  • Deliver all projects safely, cost effectively, on time and on budget
  • Identify all issues, which may increase costs of the project and in consultation with the Project Manager implement corrective actions
  • Maintain a detailed knowledge of all aspects of all projects for which you are responsible
  • Planning of works on-site necessary to deliver the project, including plant and equipment, labour, materials, sub-contractors and any other resources
  • Direction of all works on-site necessary to deliver the project, including plant and equipment, labour, materials, sub-contractors and any other resources
  • Reporting of all activities that occur on-site each day, as required by the Project Specification and the Quality, OH&S, Environment
  • Management of all OH&S, Quality and Environmental management issues on all sites for which you are responsible for

To be considered for the role of Civil Supervisor you will require:

  • A proven background within civil construction which will include extensive experience within major earthworks, road works, excavation and mobile operations
  • Extensive experience as a stand-alone supervisor civil projects up to $5 million
  • Relevant tickets for truck and excavator operations
  • Strong eye for detail
  • Excellent communication skills with colleagues, subcontractors, clients and other stakeholders

Project Manager

Locally owned Shaw Contracting (Aust) Pty Ltd, is a leading provider of Civil, Building and Mining Contracting services. Shaw’s continued growth is attributed to our proud and dedicated people.

With an increase in workload through newly appointed projects Shaw Contracting is currently looking to appoint a Project Manager to oversee major capital works projects, based in Hobart. You will be responsible for the successful delivery of the project and will need to have outstanding managerial skills, be meticulously organised and have strong prior experience in the delivery of construction projects.

To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate a highly professional approach to your work, have a proven strong background in Project Management and will hold a tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or an equivalent construction based discipline.

Key Responsibilities;

  • Mentoring and managing a team of engineers and supervisors
  • Client liaison
  • Budget and P&L responsibilities
  • Managing daily, weekly and monthly programmes
  • Subcontractor management
  • Ultimate responsibility for Safety, Environment and Quality
  • Managing a team of multidisciplinary staff on complex projects

Knowledge and experience required;

  • Ideally a qualified Civil Engineer or a minimum of a Bachelors or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Worked on road or earthworks projects worth over $5m in value as a minimum
  • Experience managing a team of Engineers and Supervisors
  • Worked closely with Quality, Safety and Environmental teams
  • Strong project commercial experience

Project Supervisor

is currently looking to appoint a Project Supervisor based in Hobart

This position is responsible for the leadership and coordination of project construction activities. The role is also responsible for providing a lead construction and technical resource for problem resolution and maximising the amount of scheduled production, minimising the impact of unscheduled works, reviewing and changing construction activities to achieve this where necessary

Key Responsibilities;

  • Project planning and programming of site operations
  • Liaising with the Site/ Project Engineers and other project support team members during the construction and completion phase to ensure successful delivery of construction works
  • Management of Leading Hands and on-site labour force including involvement in training and development of the team
  • Ensuring safety, environmental & quality management outcomes are in line with Company objectives and industry best practice
  • Delivery of a quality finished product that complies with the specifications & standards and delivers satisfaction to the client and other project stakeholders.

Knowledge and experience required;

  • clear understanding of planning and programming
  • the capability to read and interpret drawings
  • the ability to complete onsite administration documents as required
  • the skill to manage the onsite personnel to complete the project
  • a clear understanding of site safety requirements
  • a current driver's licence
  • excellent written and verbal communication
  • good level of computer literacy
  • Worked closely with Quality, Safety and Environmental teams
  • Strong project commercial experience
